Beverly
Hills: A Stereotype Non-Existent
Sure, we go to Beverly Hills High School, but does that mean we are all rich?
Apparently the school district thinks so. Fact: Beverly is the only public school on the west side that makes the student body pay for parking. Fact: Beverly’s yearbooks are by far more expensive than any public school around. Why is this? Because there is a stereotype which is that to live in Beverly Hills, you must be
at least somewhat rich. This is completely outrageous. The one thing that pisses me off the most is the parking
permit.
The parking permit price is totally outrageous. Does Hamilton make its students pay for parking?
No! I can tell you what, there is no damn way I’m going to pay for that
permit - no way! As far as the yearbook goes, people in Watchtower
say that they are breaking even or some years losing money, but when
you think about it that doesn't make any sense. You can go to a
bookstore and buy full-color books with glossy pages that are just
as long if not longer than the school yearbooks for less than the
mostly black and white yearbooks cost. With the changing price (but
always expensive) yearbook, and hundreds of dollars made per ad page (and there are MANY pages of ads), they are making quite
a bit per book. Maybe they just don't know how to get a good price
to have the books printed. And another thing: the AP tests. The AP
tests are $80 per test. Imagine a family that has a couple of
children who are taking 4 AP classes each. That's $640 for a few
tests each year! Many other schools pay for the tests so the
students don't have to, but not Beverly. I guess all I’m trying to say is that
it is crazy for someone to say that we have it so good at Beverly when we have to pay for some of these things, cause after all, if the city was so rich these things would be free.
