Introduction
You
are about to read philosophy. My philosophy. Now this will not be a
conventional philosophy reading. In fact, quite the contrary. This
is simply an introduction to the daily thoughts of Orange Mist, me.
I don’t hold these thoughts to be all inclusive nor do I think
they are necessarily right. These are my thoughts on life, society,
and the way we think. Often I will see something, or something will
happen to me, or I will think of something, or I will meet someone
who inspires these thoughts. What you are about to read is meant to
provoke thoughts. It is up to you to build upon them. Perhaps they
have some truth, perhaps they are simply the ramblings of someone
who just wants to write what he thinks. I think it should be obvious
to the reader so far that I do not hold myself to be right. I
understand I am ignorant in many matters. Perhaps, in reality there are no all-inclusive
philosophies. Perhaps there is no such thing as universal laws.
Maybe life is just mystical and completely random. Nevertheless, it
is obvious that patterns do appear to exist in this universe.
Therefore, I will try to explore such patterns as based on today’s
society because everything I think and feel is based, in one way or
another on what society has showed me. I will attempt to
rise above society, to philosophize without any prohibitions.

Expectations
Expect
nothing and hope for everything. This single sentence, if you
implement it in your life, will save you much grief. Expectations
can only lead to disappointment. Hope is nothing more than a wish,
but it will make someone work hard for his or her goals. Take for
example a test, if you go into a test expecting that you will
receive an A, but end up getting a D, then you will probably be very
frustrated and angry. If however, you expect to fail the test, and
when I say expect I mean you truly make yourself believe that you
will get an F, but you do in fact still hope for the A, then the D
will be somewhat of a relief because you were expecting an F. Hope
is critical. Hope gives you a sense of direction and can make you
determined to see a goal through. It is expectations, however, that
has the power to disappoint when goals are not reached. When one
expects nothing, and something comes, then that is a positive thing,
no matter how small that something is. Although it is hard to truly
expect nothing, one can in fact effectively persuade oneself into
expecting the worse.

The
Completeness of Nothing
The
notion of nothing is an interesting one. Can anyone truly comprehend
what nothing is? Even black space is something. With this said, lets
examine the importance of nothing. Take for example the universe:
scientists know that within this universe there is a finite
amount of matter - the rest of the universe is void of matter.
Outside the universe is an even more incomprehensible form of
nothing - a void of everything that can possibly exist. Now take
into account that by definition, the universe would have to be
surrounded by an infinite amount of "nothing". Remember,
nothing is not something, but as I will soon show, it is so much
more important than everything. So now that we have established that
there is a finite amount of matter, the rest must be nothing, and
there is nothing (if there isn't infinite matter) forever. So we
have this entity, a system that is made up of the universe and the
infinite nothingness around it. When we take into proportion
some finite number, no matter how large it is, and compare it to
infinity, the infinity will be infinitely larger. So in the scale of
things, everything is nothing. The (proportionally) small amount of
something is nothing compared to the large amount of everything. As
metaphysical as that might sound, this is truly remarkable. It
implies that if one understands nothing, one can understand
everything since the "everything" really is no more than
nothing.
